What happened?
Shares of bedding and comfort retailer Purple (NASDAQ: PRPL) fell 8.9% in the morning session after the company reported an 18.7% decline in third-quarter net revenue, driven by slumping wholesale, showroom, and e-commerce sales.
According to a company press release, Purple reported net revenue of $96.51 million, down 18.7% compared with $118.8 million in the third quarter of 2025. The contraction was primarily driven by lower wholesale revenue alongside declines in showroom and e-commerce channels. The top-line figure missed Wall Street's expectations of $105.7 million. Purple also posted an adjusted loss of $2.41 per share, which fell significantly short of consensus estimates predicting a loss of $1.09 per share.

What is the market telling us
Purple’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 67 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.
The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 3 months ago when the stock dropped 24.6% on the news that the company reported second-quarter revenue that missed Wall Street's expectations, even as it provided a stable sales forecast for the full year.
The bedding company's revenue for the quarter declined 6.5% year-over-year to $98.27 million, falling short of analysts' projections. While this top-line weakness seemed to disappoint investors, the company's results included some bright spots. Adjusted earnings per share of negative $1.52 was significantly better than anticipated.
Furthermore, Purple guided for full-year revenue of approximately $430 million, which aligned with broader estimates. Despite the reassurance for the full year, the market focused on the current quarter's sales shortfall, sending the shares lower.
Purple is down 85.7% since the beginning of the year, and at $2.55 per share, it is trading 88% below its 52-week high of $21.25 from December 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Purple’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $5.29.
