Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Emily J. Kirby has announced that the Texas Medical Excellence Scholarship is now open and accepting applications for its 2026 cycle. Texas residents currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate medical program are invited to apply for the $2,500 award before the June 5, 2026 deadline. Students in the North Texas and DFW region pursuing MD degrees are especially encouraged to apply.
Now in its second year, the Texas Medical Excellence Scholarship was established to recognize and support outstanding Texas students pursuing careers in medicine and related healthcare fields. The scholarship reflects Dr. Kirby’s commitment to investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals and helping to alleviate some of the financial burden that can accompany higher education in the medical field. As the demand for qualified healthcare providers in Texas continues to grow, Dr. Kirby established the scholarship as a way to contribute to the long-term strength of the state’s medical community.

The scholarship is open to Texas residents pursuing degrees in fields such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, or other healthcare-related disciplines, whether attending an institution in Texas, another state, or through an accredited online program. The $2,500 award may be applied to a broad range of educational expenses, including tuition, textbooks, required technology, supplies, on-campus dining, housing, and transportation costs, giving recipients the flexibility to allocate funds where they are needed most.
The 2026 application period opened on Monday, March 9, and will remain open through Friday, June 5, 2026. To be considered, applicants must submit a completed application form, original essay responses, a professional headshot, and one letter of reference with valid contact information. The Scholarship Selection Committee will review all submitted materials between June 8 and June 29, with the winner announced on Monday, July 6, 2026.
