Not every history book tells the same story. However, some authors are brave enough to justify the truth. And Daryl Ashby is here to do the same.
His book John Muir: West Coast Pioneer will highlight the intriguing tale of a Scottish family who immigrated to Canada in the late 1840s to work as "consignee" labourers for the Hudson's Bay Company.
Daryl Ashby recounts the Muirs' struggle to establish themselves in the hierarchical colony led by James Douglas. With their vision of a country based on democratic ideals, this novel accurately depicts how Muirs fought to bring a promising change in the West.
From their journey in Scotland and their early years of labouring in coal mines close to Fort Rupert on northern Vancouver Island to their conflict with the Company when they may have started the first strike in Canadian history–this historical literature will highlight it all.
The novel will hold onto your nerves as you read through the pages. The chapters and many historical representations perfectly illustrate how Muir fought hard to bring a new democratic way of life for a better future.
