Richard B. Murphy has joined Dorsey & Whitney LLP as a Partner in the Construction & Design group in Phoenix.

“Rich’s arrival significantly deepens our construction capabilities in Phoenix,” said Scott Jenkins, Dorsey’s Phoenix office head. “He is recognized as one of the best construction lawyers in town, with an excellent reputation and relationships in the local community. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”

Rich brings more than three decades of experience representing every major participant in the construction industry – owners, developers, design professionals, general contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers – for projects valued in the billions of dollars. He handles the full spectrum of construction law matters, including Arizona Prompt Payment Act claims, mechanic’s lien foreclosure actions, payment bond claims, construction defect litigation, delay and impact claims, contract interpretation disputes, and licensing matters before the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Rich has also served as an arbitrator and mediator, helping parties resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively. Rich’s practice extends beyond litigation to the transactional side of construction and development. He drafts and negotiates construction contracts, subcontracts, development agreements, CC&Rs, condominium declarations, ground leases, and related real estate instruments.

Rich joins Dorsey from Murphy Cordier Casale Axel PLC, where he was a partner. He received his J.D. from University of Nebraska, Lincoln College of Law, and his B.A. from the University of Arizona.

“I’m excited to join Dorsey’s growing Phoenix office and nationally recognized Construction practice,” said Rich Murphy. “My work aligns well with Dorsey’s strong real estate and development practice, and I look forward to contributing my experience to support our clients’ most important transactions.”
