What Happened?

A number of stocks fell in the morning session after hotter-than-expected inflation data compounded fears that elevated borrowing costs will curb artificial intelligence infrastructure spending.

The sell-off followed a Bureau of Labor Statistics release showing September wholesale prices climbed 1.3%, marking a 6.3% annual advance that outpaced the 5.5% projection from economists polled by Dow Jones. Compounding an above-forecast consumer price print from the prior session, the hotter CPI inflation reading drove the 10-year Treasury yield past 5.27%, based on CNBC market data. However, rates cooled off a bit in the pre market session. Higher benchmark rates threaten the debt-heavy funding required to power data center expansion. Yorkville Ives analyst Dan Ives observed in a client note carried by CNBC that while compute demand remains sound, climbing yields directly inflate project financing costs and intensify scrutiny on balance sheets.

Semiconductor valuations reflect aggressive, uninterrupted capital spending from cloud hyperscalers. When capital costs stay elevated, the payback timeline on multi-billion-dollar clusters lengthens, raising the hurdle rate for new hardware commitments and delaying order realization across the component supply chain.

The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks.

Among others, the following stocks were impacted:

Zooming In On Lattice Semiconductor (LSCC)

Lattice Semiconductor’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 43 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 3 days ago when the stock dropped 1.9% on the news that worries weighed on memory chipmakers and sparked selling pressure across the broader semiconductor sector, following news of domestic Chinese technological advancements and looming labor strikes in Taiwan.

Lattice Semiconductor is up 37.3% since the beginning of the year, but at $107.96 per share, it is still trading 30.5% below its 52-week high of $155.27 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Lattice Semiconductor’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $1,633.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
