Google's 'Less Secure Apps Access' disrupts small webmasters, publishers & developer efforts
PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - June 8, 2021 - PRLog -- Dr. Peter Achutha has discovered some problems with Google's 'Less Secure Apps Access'. Since OAuth 2.0 was released, the usage of Contact Us Forms on smaller websites have been disrupted.
Problems when not using OAuth 2.0
Dr. Peter Achutha found out that Contact Us Forms on websites would stop working after OAuth 2.0 was published as a security system. Google classified apps that did not use OAuth 2.0 as 'Less Secure Apps'. As a result some of these contact forms, after a period of inactivity, were blocked by Google. Thus, these Contact Us Forms would display error messages indicating that they could not send out the emails. These error messages gave a bad impression that the website was corrupted by hackers or had coding problems. One would suspect that potential customers would be frighten away. This is really bad business for small webmasters, publishers and developers.
The real problem with 'Less Secure Apps Access' system
The issue was with Google's 'Less Secure Apps Access' system. It blocked any message from being emailed to webmasters and visitors. He noted that one has to continually check if your Contact Us Form on your website was blocked by Google. If no one has used your Contact Us Form, on your website, for a long time Google would block it from sending out emails. What do you do as a small website publisher or developer if, each year, you only receive one or two messages from visitors?
Dr. Peter Achutha says, "I had so many problems with Google blocked contact us forms that I decided to do something about it. I found OAuth 2.0 was difficult to implement as the documentation was difficult to understand. It could be that I am getting too old but I had an epiphany. It struck me that we don't need to email anybody when a contact form is filled up by a visitor. So now my Contact Us Form, called ppContactForm, can save visitor messages on the server without emailing anyone. There is no need for any email addresses or OAuth 2.0. Brilliant idea, right?"
