Infant Epidermolysis Bullosa Awareness & Donation Drive: Campaign Announced

No Baby Blisters has announced an awareness campaign for epidermolysis bullosa, a rare and life-threatening genetic condition affecting infants worldwide.

-- No Baby Blisters has renewed its donation drive to fund medical care for infants living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare genetic skin disease with no known cure. The campaign targets direct support for affected babies and their families in underserved and developing regions, covering everything from specialized wound care to pediatric medications.

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic condition typically diagnosed in infancy, characterized by extremely fragile skin that blisters or tears with the slightest touch. According to No Baby Blisters, EB can be particularly severe in newborns, with some cases resulting in up to 80% skin loss and leading to complications such as infection, joint deformation, dehydration, and an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Affected infants may also experience internal blistering in the mouth and digestive tract, which can contribute to malnutrition, dental issues, and internal bleeding.

No Baby Blisters is currently the sole charity in the world that focuses on providing direct support to babies impacted by this disease. All proceeds from its funding campaigns have gone towards providing families with access to life-saving medical care, including pediatric pain medications, specialized wound dressings that will not cause blistering, blood transfusions, and antibiotics. Families also receive funding for nutritional programs and appointments with specialists who can help with daily wound care, as well as emotional support programs and specially made clothing and toys.

“Many of these children live in poverty in countries with zero chance of free healthcare. Some parents even turn to begging. They need urgent help and research into cures for this disease,” explains a spokesperson for the charity. “Our donors are literally saving lives. They help bring relief to babies suffering from blisters, skin loss, excruciating pain, and skin cancer.”
