Erica Dorsey Promoted to Member, Joseph V. Noferi and Jeffrey Scepanski Named Partner at Intellectual Property Law Firm

Ruggiero McAllister & McMahon LLC (“RuggieroIP”), a leading intellectual property law boutique, is pleased to announce that Partner Erica Dorsey has been elevated to Member, while attorneys Joseph (Joe) V. Noferi and Jeffrey (Jeff) Scepanski have been named Partners. The promotions are a testament to the upward momentum of the young firm, which advises a growing roster of clients on complex intellectual property law, trademark, and patent matters worldwide.

Erica Dorsey, Member, is a seasoned patent attorney with deep experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, in addition to preparing non-infringement, invalidity, and patentability opinions for clients based in the U.S. and worldwide. She focuses on mechanical, electromechanical, software and related technologies. Erica also provides support for clients during patent litigation and advises on intellectual property aspects of due diligence. Her past experience includes working with original equipment manufacturers in the automotive field and working with a city engineering department in the area of construction.

Erica is a past President of the Connecticut Intellectual Property Law Association and former Co-Chair of the Women in the Law Committee, as well as current Vice President of the Fairfield County Bar Association. Erica received her B.S.C.E.E. from the University of Michigan and graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School.

Joseph V. Noferi, Partner, handles the full spectrum of intellectual property law matters for individuals, small businesses, corporations, and law firms, both domestic and international. His practice includes patent prosecution, strategy, and portfolio management, as well as providing patent opinions that help clients assess risks, evaluate opportunities, and make informed business decisions. He is also involved in trademark clearance, registration, and brand counseling. In addition, Joe counsels on trade secret protection programs, risk assessments, dispute resolution, and IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions, along with strategic counseling to support investments and long-term planning. Joe also has broad expertise in the chemical, mechanical, and electrical arts, as well as experience in related technologies in a variety of industries. Bilingual in English and Italian, he can assist Italian innovators, businesses, and counsel in navigating the U.S. intellectual property system with clear communication. Joe graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and has a J.D. and an LL.M. in IP from The John Marshall Law School, now University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.

Jeffrey Scepanski, Partner, advises on all areas of trademark and copyright law, with a focus on helping clients find the most practical strategy for protecting their interests and achieving their goals. Jeff’s work includes trademark clearance, registration, and enforcement in the United States and around the world. He has extensive experience in managing global trademark portfolios and in domain name acquisition and enforcement. He also handles copyright registration and infringement matters and the negotiating and drafting of settlement, coexistence, assignment, and license agreements for clients. Jeff graduated magna cum laude from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and graduated cum laude from Quinnipiac University School of Law. He is a Member of the Connecticut Intellectual Property Law Association (CIPLA), where he served as President in 2023-2024. He is Co-Chair of the Media Entertainment and Intellectual Property Committee of the Fairfield County Bar Association and is a Member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the International Trademark Association (INTA).
