Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kiya Movassaghi recently concluded 14 years of board involvement with The Aesthetic Society, where he served in roles including President, Vice President, and Treasurer. The Aesthetic Society is a North American organization of more than 5,000 member surgeons specializing in cosmetic procedures of the face and body. In addition to its annual meeting, the organization supports continuing education, clinical research, and patient safety initiatives across the specialty.
Dr. Movassaghi reflected on his tenure in a recent episode of The Technology of Beauty, a podcast hosted by Dr. Grant Stevens and produced by Influx Marketing that features conversations with prominent figures in aesthetic medicine. The episode—one of several appearances Dr. Movassaghi has made on the program over the years—was recorded live at the Aesthetics Innovation Summit held in Boston on the same day he attended his final board meeting.
During the conversation, Dr. Movassaghi discussed the conclusion of his board service and his transition into expanded industry collaborations, characterizing the change as an extension of his work within the specialty. “Just the next chapter,” he said.
Looking ahead, the plastic surgeon plans to continue building new connections in the aesthetics industry while maintaining a full surgical practice. “I've been approached by a lot of different industry partners to collaborate and work on different projects, and I've been having a great time with that,” Dr. Movassaghi said during the episode. “That's my passion: research, development, education, and traveling the world, while staying busy in my practice.”
The recording also carried personal significance for Dr. Movassaghi, who spent many years training in Boston before establishing his practice in Eugene, Oregon. “This is also homecoming for me, because this is where it all began for me in plastic surgery,” he said, referencing his time at Harvard Medical School. There, he completed a general surgery residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center followed by a three-year plastic surgery residency through the Harvard Combined Plastic Surgery Program.
Beyond his board service, Dr. Movassaghi directs a one-year aesthetic surgery fellowship endorsed by The Aesthetic Society, training plastic surgeons at his practice in advanced cosmetic surgery techniques including facelift and brow lift, breast augmentation, and tummy tuck procedures. He also presents regularly on these topics as a traveling professor at residency programs and society meetings across the country. Dr. Movassaghi has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed articles in plastic surgery journals and edited a textbook on breast augmentation outcomes published by Springer in 2021.
Dr. Movassaghi's surgery practice and medical spa, Movassaghi Plastic Surgery & Ziba Medical Spa, has operated in Eugene for more than two decades, offering surgical and non-surgical aesthetic services with a focus on facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and breast surgery. He performs surgical procedures at McKenzie Surgery Center, an accredited outpatient facility, and holds additional surgical privileges at Sacred Heart Medical Center and McKenzie Willamette Hospital. He has been recognized multiple times as Eugene's “Favorite Cosmetic Surgeon” in the Register-Guard's Readers' Choice Awards and previously served as President of the Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons.
