Adams Pool Solutions has completed shell resurfacing and full deck waterproofing at a 1936 indoor public pool, adding another public and institutional renovation to its record of work across Northern California. The project centers on the Hayward Plunge, an indoor public pool in Memorial Park on Mission Boulevard in Hayward, California, owned by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District.
The Hayward Plunge opened in 1936, making it one of the oldest indoor public pools in the Bay Area. The district lists it as a historical building and lists the Plunge as ADA accessible. In the fall of 2025 the Plunge closed for a $5 million renovation of the whole facility, with lap swim, lessons and aqua fitness moving to the Arroyo Swim Center on November 3, 2025. The district published a closure window of fall 2025 through fall 2026, with construction wrapping in October 2026. The district scope extends well beyond the pool work, covering parking lot ADA access, electrical repairs, water pipe replacement, interior painting and revisions to the diving boards and the swim lanes.

Adams Pool Solutions works with park districts, schools, cities and hospitality properties across the Bay Area, the Central Valley and Las Vegas. The company resurfaced both pools at the Hayward Plunge: the main pool, measuring 109 feet by 58 feet 8 inches, and the children's pool, measuring 46 feet by 30 feet 5 inches and ranging from 1 foot to 2 feet 6 inches deep. The work included shell preparation and resurfacing, with a Pebble Tec Commercial White Quartz finish applied in 52 custom batches across both pools. Before the work began, the existing shell was stained and carried a history of patch repairs.
The company also carried out structural deck membrane repair and full pool deck waterproofing. The existing deck waterproofing membrane and coating were removed from the entire deck, and the new waterproofing system is an epoxy vapor barrier under a PMMA traffic coating, turned up 8 inches onto the wall bases and 6 inches at the grab rails. The project was built to a written architect's and structural engineer's specification. That specification required the deck concrete to be mechanically roughened to an ICRI concrete surface profile of 3 to 5, a deck slope of no more than 2 percent in any direction, repair of spalled concrete and corroded reinforcing steel, and replacement of one deck section with a new concrete topping slab over galvanized metal decking. Adams Pool Solutions submitted its project submittals on October 8, 2025.
Ray Langford, Chief Marketing Officer of Adams Pool Solutions, said the project reflects a distinct category of work. "Public and institutional pools demand engineered specifications, documented submittals and finishes built to handle constant use, which sets this work apart from residential projects," Langford said. "The Hayward Plunge sits alongside our renovations at Monterey Sports Park, the College of Marin Miwok Aquatic Center and Pacific Union College as examples of Adams Pool Solutions commercial pool restoration carried out to a written standard."
The Hayward Plunge joins a record of public and institutional renovations by Adams Pool Solutions in Northern California. A case study of the project, with a specification table, is published on adamspools.com, and a video titled "Restoring History: The Hayward Plunge Commercial Pool Renovation" appears on the Adams Pool Solutions YouTube channel.
