“What struck us is that people were already changing their behavior before they even started a workout,” says Peter Pompen, co-founder of RunSafePRO, on the inspiration behind the project. “Different routes, avoiding certain areas, deciding not to go out alone. The launch comes amid growing concerns about personal safety among runners and outdoor athletes. Designed to operate in real time without interrupting the user’s activity, RunSafePRO helps users stay aware of their surroundings while staying focused on their workout. When the vest detects a vehicle or cyclist approaching from behind, it alerts the wearer through vibrations and integrated lighting, even while headphones are being used. If the system detects a potential emergency and the wearer becomes unresponsive, emergency contacts can automatically receive GPS location information without requiring manual intervention.
