J. L. Putney, also known as James, received his BA in Fine Art from the University of California, Northridge. He later worked as Staff Aid to the Head of Museum Operations at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and briefly taught High School English and Creative Writing at a private Christian school.
In 1978, he married his wife, Susan, and went on to build a career as an Illustrator at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics before retiring as a Systems Analyst in 2015. He and his wife currently live in Woodstock, Georgia, and have three children and five grandchildren.
