Pair hires Faragalla Law to address government allegations

Today, Faragalla Law announced its representation for Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter, Sarinasadat “Sarina” Hosseiny, two lawful permanent residents who were recently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Sam Faragalla, Managing Attorney, calls for due process for the mother and daughter detained in April of 2026.

“This case is not about politics, popularity, or foreign policy disagreements, it is about whether the government can detain and deport lawful permanent residents without due process based solely on unproven and publicly disputed claims,” says Faragalla.

Ms. Afshar and Ms. Hosseiny had their immigration status revoked after Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised unsubstantiated assertions that they are related to the late Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. Both Afshar and Hosseiny have vehemently denied that they are related to the late general in any way. Various recent reports have also raised serious questions about the factual basis for the government’s central allegation. This includes detailed reviews of Iranian birth records, identification documents and other information which found no connection between Ms. Afshar, Ms. Hosseiny, Qassem Soleimani and/or his extended family.

Faragalla continued, “Due process does not exist only for popular people. It exists precisely for moments like this, when the accusations are serious, the politics are heated, and the dispute deals with the highest level of government in our country. We intend to prove our client’s innocence when our opportunity to do so in court is scheduled.”
