Xello, a leading K–12 college and career readiness solution, recently released its State of College and Career Readiness: Insights for the 2026–27 School Year report, developed in partnership with Hanover Research. It highlights a pivotal moment for K–12 education, with strong momentum in readiness programming alongside evolving expectations from students, educators, and the workforce.
Based on a survey of 281 U.S. educators, the findings show 94% rate their current CCR efforts as “Good” or “Excellent,” and 86% feel confident students will graduate workforce-ready. However, districts continue to face challenges, with 43% citing limited time in school schedules as a barrier.

The report also identifies a critical “timing gap”: While many educators believe CCR should begin as early as Grade 6, programming still peaks in Grades 11 and 12. It also highlights generational differences: Gen Z students favor structured planning, while Gen Alpha learners are more tech-driven and seek flexible pathways.
Technology is playing an increasingly central role, with 82% comfortable using AI in CCR planning and 79% reporting its influence on students’ future decision-making. While overall confidence is high, fewer districts report fully structured, system-wide CCR strategies, signaling an opportunity to scale what’s working by starting earlier and consistently.
