Aqua’s Hamilton Well 13 PFAS Removal Project Receives Recognition from New Jersey Alliance for Action

Aqua New Jersey is proud to announce it received New Jersey’s Leading Capital Construction Projects Award for its Hamilton Well 13 PFAS mitigation project. The award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action highlights innovative, pioneering and landmark construction initiatives that greatly impact the state’s economy.

Aqua New Jersey’s PFAS treatment system at Hamilton Well 13 uses ion exchange technology to remove “forever chemicals�� from drinking water for more than 12,700 customers across Hamilton Township, Mercer County. The $2.6 million project, which was completed in January 2026, meets the new PFAS national drinking water standard and emphasizes Aqua’s ongoing commitment to provide safe and reliable drinking water to its customers.

Aqua has been a leader in PFAS removal through transparent communication and proactive treatment planning. Recognizing the severity of the problem, Aqua began addressing and testing for PFAS in 2016. Aqua is progressing with meeting the new EPA standards across its service territory in New Jersey.

HUNTERDON COUNTY

• Bunnvale Windswept Treatment Plant
  • Serves nearly 100 customers in Lebanon Township, N.J.
  • Project cost: $200,000

SUSSEX COUNTY

• Summit Lake Treatment Plant
  • Serves 70 customers in Hardyston Township, N.J.
  • Project cost: Aqua New Jersey secured $2 million in a principal forgiveness loan through New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (I-Bank) to construct treatment.

• Byram Well 2 Treatment Plant
  • Serves more than 150 customers in Byram Township, N.J.
  • Project cost: $620,000

• Vernon Upper Well House Treatment Plant
  • Serves more than 200 customers in Vernon Township, N.J.
  • Project cost: $615,000

WARREN COUNTY

• Brainards Treatment Plant
  • Serves more than 50 customers in Harmony Township, N.J.
  • Project cost: $434,000
