Backgammon.com named exclusive global online gaming platform sponsor for WBGF World Championships, the International Backgammon Tour, and more — spanning 45+ countries

Backgammon.com, the modern platform dedicated to elevating backgammon as a global sport and cultural touchstone, today announced a landmark multi-year sponsorship partnership with the World Backgammon Federation (WBGF), the international governing body for competitive backgammon representing 45 member countries. The agreement positions Backgammon.com as the exclusive global online gaming platform sponsor across the WBGF’s most prestigious events and initiatives.

The partnership spans the full breadth of WBGF competition, including the WBGF World Team Championship, WBGF Women’s World Team Championship, WBGF Individual World Championship, World Backgammon Internet Federation World Individual Championship, BMAB World Championship, and the International Backgammon Tour (IBT) — a global circuit with events across multiple continents. Together, the two organizations will raise the standard of production, media coverage, and global visibility for competitive backgammon at every level.

“This partnership marks a historic milestone for competitive backgammon as a mind sport worldwide. Beyond the professional coverage, both the WBGF and Backgammon.com share a deep commitment to youth development and promoting backgammon as a lifelong mind sport that keeps the brain sharp at the highest level. At its core, playing together at the board transcends borders, serving as a powerful global peacemaker.”

— Bernhard Mayr, President, World Backgammon Federation

Initiative 1: WBGF World Championship Sponsorship

Backgammon.com’s three-year exclusive sponsorship of the WBGF World Team Championship will fund a comprehensive upgrade of the event’s media production — including livestream equipment, professional commentary and analysis, match transcriptions, pre- and post-event lessons, and mini-documentary production. The partnership will also add prize money to the WBGF Individual World Championship and provide up to $1,000 per event to enhance streaming quality. The goal is straightforward: to present the world’s top backgammon teams on a stage worthy of their talent, and to share that story with a global audience.

In exchange, the WBGF will provide Backgammon.com with full recognition across all event materials, websites, and communications, along with pre-event marketing, on-screen branding throughout livestreams, post-event recap content, and integration into all official WBGF channels. The expected result: 100+ hours of annual content, global visibility across 45+ countries, and a world-class presentation of competitive backgammon that reflects the true scale of the sport.

Initiative 2: International Backgammon Tour Livestreaming

The International Backgammon Tour is a global circuit spanning multiple continents, but production quality has historically varied widely by region. This partnership changes that. Backgammon.com and the WBGF will work together to standardize and elevate livestreaming across all IBT tournaments — delivering consistent, professional-grade coverage for a worldwide audience, supporting local organizers with standardized graphics and marketing, and adding prize money to drive participation.

Backgammon.com will receive on-screen branding throughout all IBT broadcasts, sponsor mentions from commentators during live coverage, on-site signage, recognition during announcements, and inclusion in all printed and digital event materials. At every IBT tournament, Backgammon.com will also host a sponsored snack table and happy hour, bringing the platform’s community-first spirit directly to players on the ground.

“Backgammon has always been a global game — played across cultures and continents for thousands of years. This partnership with the WBGF is about making sure the world knows it. We’re bringing the resources, the media, and the platform to show competitive backgammon at its best, and to welcome a new generation of players into the sport.”

— John Accardi, CEO, Backgammon.com
