Wright says this result is a choice, not inevitable, and points to how cities require cable companies to pay for the right to use public assets. Applying that principle to AI, he argues, would return value to neighborhoods, local organizations, and workers who generate it, helping them weather AI-driven shifts in jobs, education, and local economies.

“The tools to make this happen already exist. Communities do not need to wait for permission to start using them,” said Wright. “When that value comes back to the communities that created it, it becomes a source of strength.”
