Fusionex: A Malaysian Company Won an AI Logistics Award for Work It Did Inside DHL

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 7 September, 2026 - Fusionex took the AI-Logistics category at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2023. The work behind it is more interesting than the trophy.

Fusionex Group won the AI-Logistics category at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2023.

1. The category, and why it is a narrow one

AI-Logistics. Not AI. Not logistics. The intersection.

That distinction matters. Plenty of Malaysian firms had an AI story in 2023, and most of them were chatbots bolted onto a customer service queue. Far fewer had put a model inside an operational process where being wrong costs somebody a delivery.

Awards categories are usually a decent read on where a market thinks its frontier is. Malaysia Technology Excellence carving out AI-Logistics as its own category in 2023 says the judges thought there was enough real work in that space to fill it.

2. What the work actually was

The entry centred on integrating AI-powered solutions into DHL's on-demand logistics service.

That is a specific kind of engagement and a hard one. DHL is not a startup that will let you experiment on its dispatch flow. Getting a model into a live on-demand service at that scale means clearing procurement, integration and operational risk review at a global logistics operator, and then having the thing work well enough that nobody switches it off.

Freddy Loo, then the group's Director of Customer Engagement, AI and Analytics, framed the goal around the consumer end of it. A platform that is easy to use, engaging, and shaped around individual preference, rather than a back-office optimisation nobody outside the warehouse ever sees.

3. The part that is easy to miss

The stated ambition was to let businesses expand without being held back by logistics complexity.

Read that as a Malaysian problem rather than a marketing line and it lands differently. This is a country where a Klang Valley merchant and a Kuching merchant face completely different delivery economics, and where the cost and unpredictability of fulfilment is one of the real ceilings on a small business going national.

Anything that flattens that curve is doing more for the economy than the category name suggests.

4. What an award like this actually measures

Not revenue. Not headcount. Whether a piece of technology got built, deployed, and survived contact with a real operation.

On that narrow test, in 2023, this one qualified. What happened to the company afterwards is a separate story, and a much larger one, but it does not retroactively change what the work was.

Malaysia produces more of this kind of engineering than its own coverage suggests. The awards circuit is one of the few places it gets written down.
