Children’s author Annie Caboose is delighted to announce the official launch of her new illustrated picture book, Quigley’s Quirky Quack, on July 16, 2026. Combining rhythmic storytelling, colorful illustrations, playful humor, and an exciting rescue adventure, Quigley’s Quirky Quack introduces young readers to an unforgettable duck who learns that the quality making him different may also be his greatest strength.

Quigley is a kind, shy, and sweet young duck who lives with his family beside Peter’s Pond. Unlike the other ducks, Quigley has an extraordinarily loud and unmistakably quirky quack. His powerful voice bursts out at unexpected moments—while his brothers and sister are sleeping, during science class at Skye School, and even in the lunch line while his feathered friends are talking.

Whenever Quigley’s quack attracts attention, those around him ask whether he can make it quieter. Although his family, teacher, and classmates recognize that his voice is unique, the repeated requests leave Quigley feeling embarrassed and uncertain.

Before long, Quigley begins to believe that his natural voice is something he must control, suppress, or change. A worried voice inside him repeatedly tells him not to quack so loudly, causing him to question whether being different could ever be a good thing.

Everything changes during a school trip led by Miss Paula Poole. As the students fly from Skye School toward Maggie’s Marsh, the sky suddenly darkens, and a powerful wind blows the entire class far off course. Tossed through the violent updraft, Miss Paula Poole injures her wing. Lost in the forest and unable to fly home, the students must quickly find a way to call for help.

As darkness settles around them, Quigley’s classmates realize that the voice he has spent so much time trying to hide may be the only sound powerful enough to travel beyond the forest and attract the attention of rescuers. With his teacher injured and his friends relying on him, Quigley must overcome his fear, trust himself, and use the remarkable voice that has always set him apart. Taking a deep and steady breath, Quigley releases the loudest and quirkiest quack he has ever made.

His call travels across the forest and reaches search-and-rescue geese Rylie, Robyn, and Rhys. Recognizing the unmistakable sound, the rescuers follow Quigley’s quack and locate the stranded class. The voice Quigley once considered a weakness becomes the signal that guides everyone to safety.

When Quigley returns to Skye School, he is welcomed as a hero and honored for his courage. More importantly, he finally understands that his unusual voice was never a problem that needed to be fixed. It was a meaningful and valuable part of who he was. Through Quigley’s emotional journey, the book encourages children to appreciate their individuality, believe in their abilities, and resist the pressure to make themselves smaller or quieter simply for standing out.

The story’s message reflects Annie Caboose’s lifelong connection to children’s literature and imaginative storytelling. Annie Caboose, affectionately known as “the Caboose,” is the youngest of nine children. During her childhood, her loving mother read her many children’s stories, including original stories she had written herself. Inspired by her mother’s creativity and love of storytelling, Annie Caboose began writing stories of her own and later authored her first book, Where Is Love?

Annie Caboose now resides beside a lake in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, where she remains fascinated by the many birds that share the surrounding landscape. Her appreciation for nature, childhood imagination, and meaningful life lessons helped inspire the bird characters and natural setting found throughout Quigley’s Quirky Quack.

Warm, humorous, adventurous, and emotionally uplifting, the book offers parents, caregivers, librarians, and educators an engaging way to start meaningful conversations with children about confidence, belonging, courage, friendship, self-expression, and respect for differences. The story reminds young readers that a quality that initially feels embarrassing or inconvenient may eventually become an unexpected source of strength. Above all, Quigley’s Quirky Quack celebrates the importance of recognizing that every child’s voice matters.

Quigley’s Quirky Quack is written by Annie Caboose, illustrated by Raymond James Oakay, and edited by David Rempel. The book will officially launch on July 16, 2026, with publishing, distribution, and purchasing details to be announced soon.
