CHRIAS Expands Surgical Team with Addition of Three Surgeons

Enhancing Access to Advanced Bariatric and General Surgery Across the Region

NEWARK, DE, April 08, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CHRIAS (Center for Health, Research, Innovation, and Surgery) continues to expand its surgical team in response to growing patient demand, adding two Bariatric/General Surgeons at the end of 2025, Dr. Ellen Pekar, MD, and Dr. Donovan Hui, MD, and welcoming Dr. Shreya Jammula, MD as a General Surgeon in 2026.

This expansion reflects a deliberate approach: growing capacity while maintaining the level of quality, accountability, and outcomes that CHRIAS has built its reputation on.

The addition of these surgeons strengthens CHRIAS' capabilities in bariatric and metabolic surgery, minimally invasive and robotic procedures, colorectal surgery, and complex general surgery, supported by a coordinated, outcomes-driven model of care.

"As we continue to grow, we remain grounded in a simple principle: access must never come at the expense of quality," said Kemal Erkan, Chairman of United Medical ACO. "This is not about adding volume. It is about building the right team. We are focused on surgeons who understand responsibility, who believe in value-based care, and who are committed to delivering consistent, measurable outcomes."

Dr. Isaias Irgau, Founder and President of CHRIAS, emphasized that growth must remain aligned with the organization's clinical philosophy.
"Our goal has never been just to perform surgery. It is to guide patients through a complete pathway to long-term health," he said. "Expanding the team only works if we bring in the right people, surgeons who share that mindset. That is how you grow without losing what makes you effective."

That alignment is reflected in the perspectives of the new surgeons joining the organization.

Dr. Donovan Hui highlighted the importance of advancing surgical capability while improving patient recovery:
"With particular expertise in robotic surgery and comprehensive GERD management, I focus on delivering precise, advanced treatment options that improve outcomes and recovery for patients with reflux disease, obesity, and hernias. The goal is to make innovative, patient-centered surgical care more accessible, so patients can benefit from state-of-the-art techniques close to home."

For Dr. Shreya Jammula, the decision to join CHRIAS was both professional and personal:
"As someone who grew up in this area and always intended to return and serve this community, CHRIAS was the right fit. It offers the flexibility to build a practice thoughtfully, while being part of a team that values mentorship, collaboration, and long-term growth. That environment is critical, especially early in a career."

Dr. Ellen Pekar brings additional depth in bariatric and metabolic surgery, with advanced training in both laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Her experience across a full spectrum of weight-loss procedures further strengthens CHRIAS' ability to deliver comprehensive surgical care.

CHRIAS serves patients across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and surrounding regions, with a reputation built on clinical discipline, strong outcomes, and a patient-first approach.

This expansion will improve access to care, reduce wait times, and reinforce CHRIAS' ability to deliver high-quality surgical services within a structured, value-based framework.
