Houston-based pest control company increases response efforts as Harris County reports early-season virus cases

HOUSTON — June 22, 2026 — SkeeterCide, a Houston-based mosquito and pest control company, today announced an expansion of its mosquito control services across Houston after state and local health officials reported early-season West Nile virus activity in Harris County.

The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the county’s first human West Nile virus case of 2026 in May. The case was classified as West Nile neuroinvasive disease. State surveillance has also detected the virus in mosquito pools across Harris County and nearby areas.

“Every season brings different conditions, and this year’s rainfall has increased breeding opportunities across the region,” said John Tallent, Founder of SkeeterCide. “We’re scaling inspections and targeted treatments to help homeowners, businesses, and community properties reduce mosquito pressure before activity peaks.”

SkeeterCide, which operates across the Houston area, said its expanded efforts focus on property-level inspections and treatment plans based on local conditions. The company provides mosquito control services for residential, commercial, and community properties.

These services include site inspections, targeted mosquito treatments, and maintenance of automated misting systems. Technicians also assess environmental factors such as drainage issues, shaded standing water, and landscaping conditions that may support mosquito breeding.

The company said it is also working with homeowner associations in parts of Northeast Houston, where shared outdoor spaces and drainage systems can contribute to localized mosquito activity. It noted that coordinated treatment approaches across communities may help reduce overall mosquito pressure.

SkeeterCide expects mosquito activity to remain elevated through the season and said it is prioritizing scheduling flexibility in areas reporting higher mosquito presence. The company also advised residents to remove standing water around properties and maintain proper drainage to reduce breeding conditions and mosquito control in Houston.

Officials continue to encourage preventive measures as part of broader efforts to limit mosquito-borne disease risks during peak activity periods.

SkeeterCide noted that while treatments reduce mosquito populations, they do not eliminate all mosquitoes or fully prevent mosquito-borne disease transmission.
