(Matthew Du, NewsUSA Reporter) - NYC is regulating outdoor dining due to pedestrian complaints on outdoor dining sheds. These open-air dining sheds were launched during the pandemic era to reduce the chance of viral contraction. After reviewing feedback, the city government, with Mayor Eric Adam and Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, released specific rules under the program Dining Out NYC.
Under Dining Out NYC, food service establishments must apply before having permanent outdoor dining areas. Application fees depend on location and establishment size. Dining Out NYC's official site lists outdoor dining set-up guides from accessibility to drainage to operational needs and design requirements.
The stipulations of Dining Out NYC have been in effect since March 3, 2024.
