Pembroke Park, FL - (NewMediaWire) - August 12, 2021 - For many, a daily meal is a simple choice of what to eat. But for people facing hunger, a daily meal poses a very different type of choice. It's often an impossible choice between food or other crucial needs, such as electricity, childcare, or medicine.
Hunger Action Month is a time when communities throughout the country commit to helping end hunger. With every action, we get one step closer to eliminating hunger. Donating, volunteering, pledging to advocate, and fundraising are just ways people can take action in September for Hunger Action Month.
What is Hunger Action Month?
As part of an annual nationwide initiative created by Feeding America®, Hunger Action Month® takes place throughout September and is designed to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in America and inspire people to take action to help ensure food isn’t an impossible choice.
In South Florida, nearly one million individuals don’t know from where they will get their next meal - nearly 300,000 of whom are children. Hunger Action Month is your opportunity to be a part of a month-long movement that has a real and lasting impact on our mission of ending hunger in South Florida.
This September, Feeding South Florida is offering you the choice to end hunger, and there are so many ways to take action. Whether you’re volunteering, donating directly, or starting a fundraiser, we have the tools for you to GO ORANGE! How will you choose to end hunger?
DONATE OR START A VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE
Donate now or create an online fundraising page on the Feeding South Florida website. Team members can choose to donate the cost of items they would have purchased for a physical food drive.
ARRANGE A VOLUNTEER DAY
Feeding South Florida’s regular shifts are Tuesday to Saturday or participate in Rock the Orange Weekend of Service on Sept 10th + 11th.
GO ORANGE ONLINE
Use Feeding South Florida’s digital toolkit to add orange elements to your website, logo, and social media pages. Dress in orange and post to spread awareness and encourage donations to support this mission.
Last year, throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties, several landmark buildings including, among others, The Breakers, Miami Tower, and Bank of America all participated in Go Orange Day by turning their lights orange. Dozens of cities issued proclamations, hundreds of groups held food + fund drives and participated in volunteer days, and turned their websites, logos and social media pages orange.
Be sure to view Feeding South Florida’s “30 Ways in 30 Days Calendar” for daily actions everyone can take to help end hunger in South Florida. This year, we celebrate Hunger Action Day, a.k.a. “GO ORANGE DAY,” on Friday, September 17th to bring awareness to the issue of hunger in our community.
