Cleveland, Ohio, Aug. 28, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In response to devastating events in Nepal that have severely damaged critical health care, water and community infrastructure, Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) is mobilizing its global health expertise, students, faculty and international partnerships to support urgent recovery efforts.

Through the NEOMED Center for Global Health Innovation, the University will work with partners to address immediate health, environmental and safe-water needs while helping restore essential infrastructure. The response builds on NEOMED’s existing global health work and relationships in Nepal, allowing the University and its partners to draw on established connections, experience and local knowledge.

NEOMED is collaborating with the Crocker Catalyst Foundation and the Global EnviroHealth Initiative on a coordinated response designed to meet immediate needs while supporting longer-term recovery and strengthening community health systems.

Several NEOMED students will travel to Nepal to work alongside local and international partners, contributing directly to recovery efforts while gaining firsthand experience in global, population and environmental health.

“The immediate priority is helping communities recover access to the basic health and water resources they need,” said Bernhard Fassl, M.D., director of the NEOMED Center for Global Health Innovation. “Because NEOMED already has relationships and experience in Nepal, we can build on that foundation and work alongside local partners during the immediate recovery while developing solutions that strengthen these communities for the future.”

The initiative also reflects NEOMED’s mission to create transformational leaders who improve health by giving students firsthand experience addressing the environmental, social and community factors that influence health.

To support the disaster response and rebuilding effort, the NEOMED Foundation has established a dedicated public giving opportunity, accessed by clicking here. Contributions will support health and water infrastructure initiatives in Nepal and student participation in the work.

“This is an opportunity to support the people of Nepal during a time of significant need while also investing in the next generation of health professionals,” said Sophie Sureau, vice president for Advancement and president of the NEOMED Foundation. “These gifts can make an immediate difference while helping prepare future health leaders committed to service, compassion and problem-solving.”

Supporters can contribute online at https://www.neomed.edu/give/foundation/ or by mail to the NEOMED Foundation, 4209 State Route 44, P.O. Box 95, Rootstown, Ohio 44272.
