Silk is a natural protein fibre harvested from the domestic silkworm, Bombyx mori. According to separate articles in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, the Journal of Scientific & Industrial Research, and Materials Today Communications, silk contains two proteins, fibroin and sericin, which are responsible for the mechanical properties and strength of the material, respectively. When woven into fabric, the result is a smooth and soft material that can be beneficial for hair health.
