A heartwarming collection of true stories about pets, wildlife, friendship, and the animals that leave a lasting mark on people’s lives.
-- Author and artist Annette Rawlings invites readers into a lifetime of remarkable animal encounters in her new book, Spot & Boots. Blending childhood memories, beloved pets, wildlife adventures, and stories of rescue and companionship, the book offers a heartfelt celebration of the special bond between people and animals.
From summers spent on her grandparents’ farm in Alabama with her beloved cat Fluffy to adventures with Oliver, Midnight, Mac, and other unforgettable animals, Rawlings illustrates how deeply animals have shaped her life. Her experiences also took her into the jungles of Mexico and Belize, where encounters with wildlife strengthened her lifelong connection to nature.
“This book is filled with short stories about a wide variety of creatures. All were memorable and each one added to my life in many different ways. This book is a collection of my interactions with all of these amazing creatures great and small.”
— Annette Rawlings
A Journey Through a Lifetime of Animal Stories
Spot & Boots takes readers from the simple joys of childhood to extraordinary encounters with animals both domestic and wild. Along the way, Rawlings introduces readers to a colorful cast of companions, including an Alaskan Husky, a rescued macaw, childhood chicks, a parakeet, a baby alligator, and numerous unforgettable cats.
At the heart of the book is the story of Spot and Boots, sibling kittens whose special bond becomes one of Rawlings’ most touching memories. When Boots disappears, Spot’s loyalty and search for his sister reveal the depth of emotion and companionship animals can bring into people’s lives.
The book also invites readers to reflect on their own connections with animals. In the preface, Rawlings encourages readers to write their own creature stories, remember favorite animal experiences, draw the animals they love, and imagine new adventures.
With warmth, humor, adventure, and genuine affection, Spot & Boots celebrates the animals that become part of families and the cherished memories that remain long after those animals are gone.
