Atticus Publishing proudly announces the release of Little Drops of Water by Jess J. Ramirez, a bilingual memoir that reflects on the strength of family, the power of love, and the resilience of the human spirit. The book is available in paperback, hardcover, and eBook formats, and is a deeply personal narrative set against the backdrop of 1940s Juárez, Mexico.
In Little Drops of Water, Ramirez takes readers on an emotional journey through his early years, starting with a life-threatening health crisis as an infant. He was saved by the courage and love of his family, particularly his sister, Toña, who braved the unfamiliar city of Ciudad Juárez to seek medical help. Through the compassion of Dr. Manuel Noguerola, Ramirez’s life was spared, and his survival became the foundation of his life’s journey.
This poignant bilingual story transports readers to a time defined by hardship, sacrifice, and unwavering family ties. The narrative not only celebrates the personal struggle of Ramirez and his family but also explores the historical context of the Bracero Program. This program, which brought Mexican migrant workers to the United States in search of better opportunities, is a significant part of the immigrant experience, and Ramirez brings it to life through his vivid storytelling.
With beautiful illustrations by Saúl Escobedo, Little Drops of Water captures the essence of Hispanic heritage, emphasizing themes of family history, sibling relationships, and the struggles faced by immigrant families. It’s a tale that resonates deeply with readers of all backgrounds, honoring the courage of those who choose to persevere through difficult times.
"I hope this book helps people understand the sacrifices made by migrant workers and the lengths a family will go to for each other," said Jess J. Ramirez. "My story is one of survival, but it’s also a story of hope, about how even in the toughest times, we can find the strength to move forward."
