Signal-driven direct indexing, an unconstrained quant hedge fund and new creative agency underscore firm’s build-it-yourself approach to growth

Potomac Fund Management, Inc. (“Potomac”), a tactical asset manager specializing in risk-management solutions, today announced three new initiatives that extend the firm’s quantitative investment capabilities, advisor platform and brand expertise into new markets. CEO Manish Khatta shared the news during his opening keynote address at Potomac's REMIX conference. The announcement comes on the heels of a significant growth period for Potomac. The firm surpassed $5 billion in assets under management earlier this year and has added $2 billion in assets over the past nine months alone.

“Most firms take success and turn it into a bigger org chart. We take success and turn it into new businesses,” said Khatta. “Every one of these ventures started as a capability we built for ourselves because we couldn't find exactly what we wanted in the market. Now we're taking the training wheels off and seeing how far they can go.”

Direct Indexing, Reimagined

Potomac is launching a proprietary direct indexing solution that pairs integrated tax-loss harvesting with a tactical overlay. Unlike traditional direct indexing approaches that generally maintain equity exposure, Potomac’s solution is designed to adjust exposure in response to its tactical trading signals. The solution will debut on Potomac Union, its turnkey asset management platform (TAMP), before expanding to additional custodians and platforms.

Potomac Unshackled

Potomac will launch a hedge fund early next year, giving the firm's quantitative models room to operate outside the constraints of RIA custodians and the traditional ʼ40 Act mutual fund structure, including expanded use of shorting, leverage and futures. The result of a two-year incubation period, the fund will initially be available to accredited investors, including Potomac advisors investing their personal assets, with a $1 million minimum investment.

Creative Built for Financial Brands

Potomac is preparing to launch a standalone creative agency focused on high-end brand engagements for fintech companies, asset managers and large registered investment advisers (RIAs). Drawing on the in-house creative capabilities that have supported Potomac’s own growth, the agency will specialize in helping brands uncover what sets them apart and makes them more valuable, then communicating it with confidence.

“We’ve built Potomac by treating brand and creative work as core business functions, and we know firsthand what it takes to create something that stands apart in financial services,” said Christopher Norton, Chief Marketing Officer of Potomac. “Having done it for ourselves, we’re in a strong position to help others do the same.”
