Addition of these professionals provides further expertise across credit investing, trading and CLO operations

MidOcean Partners ("MidOcean" or the "Firm"), a premier New York-based alternative asset manager specializing in middle-market private equity, alternative credit and structured equity, announced today the hiring of three new professionals to its Credit team. Kit Soo is joining MidOcean as a Principal, and Bob McLaughlin and Matthew Lal joined as a Principal and Vice President, respectively. With $9 billion of credit assets under management today, MidOcean continues to scale its credit platform with the addition of these experienced professionals.

Growing the Firm’s presence in the private credit markets through its Tactical Credit investment strategy has been a key initiative of the Firm over the past seven years. Additionally, since 2022, MidOcean has significantly enhanced and scaled its CLO platform. The appointments of Mr. Soo, Mr. McLaughlin, and Mr. Lal reflect MidOcean's continued investment in talent across these areas and beyond.

  • Kit Soo will focus primarily on origination and underwriting within the capital solutions space, further enhancing the Firm’s reach in private credit. Mr. Soo joins MidOcean from Macquarie, where he most recently served as a Senior Vice President in the Principal Finance division in New York. He brings experience sourcing and executing opportunistic credit, structured capital, and sponsor finance investments across a range of industries.
  • Bob McLaughlin focuses on identifying and executing portfolio investments in a trading capacity. He was previously at CIFC Asset Management, where he most recently served as a Vice President in Portfolio Management and Trading. Mr. McLaughlin brings significant trading experience across the capital structure to MidOcean’s platform.
  • Matthew Lal runs CLO operations internally, managing the Firm’s vendor relationships and supporting the platform’s remarkable growth trajectory. Mr. Lal joins MidOcean from Sculptor Capital Management, where he most recently served as Controller with senior responsibility for operations and financial controls across the firm's U.S. and European CLO platform. He brings extensive experience in CLO operations, compliance reporting and platform oversight.

"We are pleased to welcome Kit, Bob, and Matthew to MidOcean," said Dana Carey, President of MidOcean Partners and Chief Investment Officer of MidOcean’s credit business. "Their complementary experience across credit investing, trading and CLO operations further strengthens our team and supports the continued growth of our credit platform."

All three professionals will be based in MidOcean’s New York City office.
