CHRISTIE, PARKER & HALE OBTAINS IMPORTANT CRYPTOGRAPHIC PATENT FOR STAMPS.COM

Christie, Parker & Hale LLP, one of Southern California’s leading intellectual property law firms, announced today that the firm was instrumental in a major patent issuance for its client Stamps.com® Inc. (NasdaqGS:STMP), the intelligent alternative to a postage meter, of Los Angeles, California.

The patent, U.S. Pat. No. 7,490,065, pertains to a secure system for processing value-bearing items, such as postage, tickets, checks, coupons and other transaction currency.

“We are pleased to have played a significant role in the issuance of this patent for our client,” commented Raymond R. Tabandeh, the CPH partner who successfully appealed the case to Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. “The upsurge in use of the Internet for e-commerce and financial transactions has resulted in emergence of many Internet security problems. Protecting confidentiality and integrity of online information and ensuring availability of online data have created many challenges for consumers, companies and the government. For example, there are over 10 million identity theft victims in the U.S., a large number of whom had their identity and confidential information stolen over the Internet.”

“Stamps.com’s customers use our software to print postage hundreds of millions of times every year,” stated Stamps.com CEO, Ken McBride. “The patent covers core technology we use to make sure the postage prints are secure for our customers and the United States Postal Service."

"This patent provides protection for Stamps.com® Inc.'s unique technology for guarding against unauthorized accessing of confidential information, harm to data integrity, and loss of data availability," concluded Tabandeh.
