ST. LOUIS, Sept. 24, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- AAA Translation, a company dedicated to providing professional translation, interpretation, localization, and global consulting services, is increasing access to important health and safety information for non-English speaking residents in St. Louis and beyond. With a client base comprised of local, national, and global organizations, AAA Translation is a trusted partner to those expanding into new markets and increasing their cultural footprint. Amid the pandemic, organizations all over the world have turned to the translation company for help. By increasing access to vital communications, the team at AAA Translation is helping the nation's healthcare systems support the health and wellbeing of community members. After all, if non-English-speaking communities do not understand best healthcare practices in the face of a pandemic because of a language barrier, the healthcare of entire communities is affected.
"Translation is the great healthcare equalizer—especially in these times," said Susanne Evens, CEO and Founder of AAA Translation. "The only way we can be one humanity is by understanding one another. Whether AAA Translation is called to translate a safety brochure in Brazil or translate communications that provide vital information surrounding the global pandemic to our fellow citizens, we are committed to bringing access and awareness to everyone."
The coronavirus outbreak has increased the logistical barriers for medical interpretation. One organization AAA Translation has worked with during the pandemic is Compass, a startup focused on addressing social inequity in healthcare through their free SMS-based triaging platform which was created at St. Louis' Washington University to increase clinical efficiency, diagnosis, and healthcare accessibility in vulnerable areas. The company's primary focus in recent months has been responding to the lack of accessibility to COVID-related information in low-income, and densely immigrant populated urban areas. With the help of AAA Translation, Compass is able to translate COVID-related risk assessment questions in six additional languages to allow for broader access to ESL and non-English speaking populations. In addition to their work with Compass, AAA Translation also provides translation and interpretation services to large hospitals and healthcare systems, translating intake forms and HIPAA compliance documents into other languages with the goal of sharing important information to those who need it most.
"Our entire team is extremely thankful to AAA Translation for their assistance in helping us better achieve our goal of providing access to healthcare," said Chris Gibson, Managing Director at Compass.
In addition to their work with healthcare systems, AAA Translation has been offering complimentary translation services to a variety of community organizations in order to quickly and effectively create and disseminate COVID-related communications for non-English speakers. So far, their work has included video translation for global audiences, employee information distribution in different languages, and a variety of comprehensive interpretation services for organizations and companies throughout the St. Louis region where AAA Translation is based. To date, AAA Translation has provided over $10,000 worth of pro bono services to the Metro West Fire District, STL Juntos, St. Charles County Department of Public Health, and the Missouri History Museum
"As a linguist, I feel strongly that we (translators) have a responsibility to utilize our skills and knowledge to share and interpret vital information so that all may understand what's going on in relation to COVID-19," said Evens. "If there are community members who do not understand what's going on or are not able to receive proper treatment in hospitals due to the language barrier, the numbers of COVID-19 cases will increase – it's that simple."
A disproportionate number of minorities are hospitalized, and this is due, in large part, to language barriers around proper safety precautions. Evens and the team at AAA Translation hope to continue their important work so that those facing translation challenges and those greatly affected by the pandemic are able to receive the same quality treatment and have access to information at the same rate as native English speakers.
"It's about equity," said Evens. "It's about providing life or death information to our country's most vulnerable."
