Moving to a new place is a whole process and there are certain moving and packing supplies that will make your life a lot easier. Learn about five of them.

Each year, about 35.5 million Americans decide to pack up their lives and move somewhere new.

If you’re going to be one of those millions of Americans who are planning on relocating soon, you’ll definitely need some moving and packing supplies.

However, if this is your first move, you might be wondering what you even need. We’ll break down some of the most important tools and supplies you’ll need.

1. Moving Boxes or Containers

One of the most important things you’ll need is a moving container or cardboard boxes.

Most people and moving companies, like Inner City Moving & Storage Company, use cardboard boxes because they’re cheap, easy to break down, and come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes.

You can find boxes for sale at Home Depot or Lowes, but you can also find them for free if you call your local grocery or liquor store.

2. Packing Paper

Once you start packing your boxes, you’ll need something to stuff them with to ensure nothing in it breaks.

When you’re wrapping something fragile like silverware or other keepsakes, you may want to get some foam, bubble wrap, or packing paper.

3. Packing Tape

Packing tape is really strong tape that will hold your boxes shut and make sure they don’t open in the middle of the move. While there are cheap options out there, you may want to spend the extra money and find something that will be a little more durable.

When you start trying to tape boxes closed, you may also find that it’s hard to hold the boxes down and still try to tape them shut. This is where having a packing tape gun can really come in handy. Trust us, it’s worth the extra money.

4. Box Identifiers

If you’re moving yourself, you’ll want some way to tell what is in what boxes.

A really easy, cost-effective way to do this is to get some sharpies and write on the box. Some of the boxes even have little sections where you can fill in details of what’s in there.

However, another creative way to be able to tell what goes to what room is to get colored duct tape. For example, boxes with blue duct tape on them could be for the living room.

This makes it easy to know what goes where when you’re trying to move it all in at once.

5. Furniture Covers

Lastly, you’ll also need some covers for your furniture.  Once you put it in the truck, it could get dirty or damaged.

Some people use old bedding for this, but you can also buy them as well. For example, you can normally buy mattress covers.
