Maggie Flanigan Launches Master Class For Acting

NEW YORK -- Maggie Flanigan Studio is announcing a rare opportunity to study with studio founder and master teacher Maggie Flanigan. The Master Class is for accomplished actors who understand the importance of re-grounding themselves in the fundamentals of the craft.

This Master Class with Maggie will take place every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the prestigious Maggie Flanigan Studio. To find out more visit: Master Class for Actors.

Sessions begin on April 5 and conclude on June 7.

The Master Class with Maggie Flanigan takes place in 10 sessions, once a week, where actors study major roles created by the world’s greatest playwrights. Selected scenes are discussed and agreed upon by the student and Maggie before they are paired with another actor. According to Charlie Sandlan, Head Acting Teacher at Maggie Flanigan Studio, “In this Master Class rich, complicated material from the greatest playwrights in the history of the theater will be worked through and mastered under the direction of the studio’s Artistic Director and Master Teacher Maggie Flanigan. It’s work that is demanding and exhilarating.”

Any professional artist, even one with significant credits, understands that mastery requires discipline. Artists must embark on a journey that has no real end. For actors this means, at times, going back to revisit and refine the basics of their craft. Professional actors never stop relying on specific foundational skills, no matter how much experience they gain. Professional actors looking to fine-tune their acting instrument will find this master class is the perfect opportunity to strengthen their work at its core.

In this video, Maggie talks about her philosophy of teaching, and actors gain insight into why Maggie Flanigan has been so influential in shaping two generations of actors using the Meisner Technique.

Sam Rockwell, a former student, says: "Maggie Flanigan is uncompromising, her instincts as a teacher are razor sharp. She doesn't miss a beat."

Mike Colter says: "Maggie helped me find my sense of truth, an actor's greatest asset. Maggie is an expert at instilling that vital ingredient, which allows an actor's potential to become limitless. My work will forever be rooted in the clarity and honesty she helped me develop."

In one interview about the master class, former student Tim Dekay says, “Maggie's teaching is unmatched." According to Dekay, "She finds a great balance in having you commit to the work specifically while allowing your essence to color the role. To this day, both in theatre and in film, her voice and teaching have continued to influence my work profoundly."

Former and current students of the Master Class include Sam Rockwell, Chris Messina, KaDee Strickland, Piper Perabo, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Yul Vazquez, Leslie Bibb, Vanessa Aspillaga, Peter Scanavino, Dean Winters, Kohl Sudduth, Scott Winters, Calista Flockhart, Kristin Davis, Jeremy Davidson, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Scott Hudson.
