Inflation accelerates more than expected in March as high prices persist

The Labor Department released the closely watched March consumer price index report Wednesday, revealing just how hot inflation was running last month.

The Labor Department said Wednesday that the consumer price index, a broad measure of the price of everyday goods including gasoline, groceries and rent, rose 0.4% in March from the previous month. Prices climbed 3.5% from the same time last year. 

Both of those figures are higher than expected.
