Jennifer Trujillo VanDyke, author of Floating: The Story of a Girl Who Can Almost Fly New Author, Jennifer Trujillo VanDyke, Pens a Fresh Coming of Age Novel
February 1, 2023 - Capucia Publishing announces the release of the young adult fiction book, Floating: The Story of a Girl Who Can Almost Fly by author Jennifer Trujillo VanDyke, a coming-of-age novel that blends fun and frustration, faith and failure, the fantastic and the familiar, creating a story that reflects the everyday reality of the reader’s life as well as a world of incredible possibilities.
Floating tells the story of sixteen-year-old Lucy, whose life isn’t terrible, it’s just not terribly interesting. She watches everyone and everything from behind an invisible wall in an existence painted a terribly drab gray. But when she sleeps, Lucy escapes to a Technicolor dream world where she floats, untethered to the dull earth if only for a few minutes. It’s these moments of freedom that she lives for…until one day when everything comes crashing down and she has to break through her fortress of buried emotions. Will she fall flat on her face or will she finally float free?
“I’ve had dreams about flying for as long as I can remember, and this book began by writing down one of those dreams,” recounts the author, Jennifer Trujillo VanDyke. “I often go to sleep now, prepared to receive inspiration for a scene I’m working on, or a new idea entirely. I can put myself into that mindset pretty easily when I’m in writing mode. The tricky part is choosing among those fantastic scenarios and weaving them into a compelling narrative. It’s a wonderfully satisfying process when I can devote the necessary energy to it.”
