Thompson Builders Awarded $109M CDCR Project

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has chosen TBC to be the general contractor on its new 50-bed mental health facility project

NOVATO, Calif. - Dec. 19, 2022 - PRLog -- Thompson Builders Corp. (TBC), a California-based general contracting and building services firm has been awarded the upcoming Chino Hills Prison Mental Health Facility project.

The firm will complete this project under national leader Vanir as Program Manager and industry giant Kitchell Construction as Construction Manager. The architecture firm selected to design this project is HOK, a global leader in design, architecture, engineering, and planning. TBC is honored to have been selected as part of this prestigious, design and construction team.

The $109,890,000 California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) project is described as a 69,000-square-foot building located within Facility D at CIM.

As the general contractor, TBC's scope of work for the 50-bed project will consist of the following:

  • Demolition of a condemned onsite chapel and swimming pool;
  • Extending utilities such as water, wastewater, natural gas, electrical and communications to the site;
  • Construction of the new facility in its entirety;
  • Construction of a pedestrian walkway from the staff parking lot to the building as well as a similar path for visitors;
  • Emergency vehicle access;
  • 98 new staff parking spaces;
  • Razor ribbon-topped security fencing
This project also requires a LEED Silver Certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Groundbreaking is slated for January 2023 and the project will take approximately 28 months to complete.
