What is the market telling us
GE HealthCare’s shares are not very volatile and have only had 5 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful, although it might not be something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.
The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 3 months ago when the stock gained 11% on the news that the company reported second-quarter 2026 results that surpassed Wall Street's expectations for both revenue and profit.
The company posted revenue of $5.30 billion, up 5.8% year-over-year, and an adjusted profit of $1.13 per share, beating consensus estimates by 0.5% and 9.1%, respectively. Management also reaffirmed its full-year earnings guidance, which analysts noted was slightly ahead of expectations. Another positive sign was the improvement in free cash flow, which clocked in at $68 million, a significant increase from the same quarter last year. The strong quarterly performance, highlighted by the earnings beat, appeared to boost investor confidence.
GE HealthCare is down 7.8% since the beginning of the year, and at $76.34 per share, it is trading 13.4% below its 52-week high of $88.16 from January 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of GE HealthCare’s shares at the IPO in December 2022 would now be looking at an investment worth $1,272.
