New interactive pandemic simulator lets the public place a single case anywhere in the U.S. and watch a contagious disease move through a modeled population of 350 million

AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 9, 2026 - PRLog -- MIRA Safety® has announced the launch of its free Biological Infection Simulator, an interactive tool that shows how a contagious disease could spread across the US. The company expedited the launch in response to reports of a suspected pneumonic plague case in Siberia, to give the public a clearer picture of how an outbreak moves from one person to an entire population.

According to TIME, a laboratory technician at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute died in October, and 197 contacts were placed under medical observation. Russian authorities have described the situation as stable. The U.S. has since issued a no-travel advisory for Russia. The CDC notes that pneumonic plague is the only form that spreads between people, through airborne droplets.

The simulator is built around the core variables the CDC uses to describe how infectious diseases spread: incubation period, infectious period and the chance of transmission per contact. Users place one infected person anywhere in the 50 states or D.C., set those values or load one of seven presets, and follow the outbreak day by day. A population of 350 million, distributed by U.S. Census population shares, moves and mixes locally while infected people travel between cities by car and plane. Results are tracked across four states: healthy, infected, with symptoms and recovered.

The tool is free, requires no account, and a downloadable PDF guide is also available. It is an educational model, not a forecast, and does not predict real cases or medical outcomes.

"Headlines tell you an outbreak has started, but they don't show you how it grows," said Roman Zrazhevskiy, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at MIRA Safety. "When reports came out of Siberia, we moved this launch up so people could see for themselves how one case becomes thousands, and why preparation has to start before the first case appears near you."

Because many biological threats travel through the air, MIRA Safety offers respiratory protection for the whole family, including the CM-6M Tactical Gas Mask, ParticleMax P3 filters rated for airborne particles including viruses and bacteria, and the MD-1 and MD-2 children's respirators.

The Biological Infection Simulator is available now on MIRA Safety's website
