Program Examines Licensed IP as a Growth Engine for Studios and What Video Games Offer Filmmakers and Musicians
Xsolla, a global commerce company, today announced it will host an industry Lunch and Learn on the intersection of video games and entertainment as part of LA Tech Week on Tuesday, October 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. PT in Los Angeles. The event brings video game developers, studio leaders, and professionals from film, music, and entertainment together to examine the user acquisition, loyalty, and monetization models emerging where the two industries meet, followed by a networking lunch.

Video games and entertainment now trade IP in both directions. Film and television franchises arrive in games as limited-time events, musicians release and perform work inside game worlds, and game IP anchors films and episodic series of their own. The business models behind those deals have matured more slowly. Many are still negotiated one at a time, measured differently by each side, and treated as a short-term revenue moment rather than a lasting way to reach new audiences. The Lunch and Learn is built to close that gap.
The program covers both sides of the deal. For studios, it covers how to plan for and integrate a licensed IP moment versus a standard user acquisition campaign, and how to value a collaboration that drives revenue while bringing in new players. It also addresses what comes after the spike. Keeping new players is its own challenge: Sensor Tower puts day-30 retention for mobile games at 3% to 5%, so a licensed IP moment is only as valuable as a studio's plan to keep the audience it attracts.
For attendees whose business isn't games at all, the program looks at what licensing into a game offers filmmakers and musicians, including how a game can extend the life of a film or album and reach audiences that traditional release windows miss.
"Los Angeles is where video games and entertainment already share the same talent, the same audiences and, increasingly, the same IP," said Berkley Egenes, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer at Xsolla. "What's still missing is a shared playbook for how these partnerships drive real engagement and create new user acquisition and revenue opportunities on both sides. That's the conversation we want to have here in our hometown."
Xsolla works at the intersection of games, brands, IP, and content every day. From its Los Angeles headquarters, the company provides commerce infrastructure for game developers' direct-to-consumer stores and, in 2025, supported more than $1 billion in direct-to-consumer transactions on PC across more than 1,000 games. The LA Tech Week event follows Xsolla's appearances at Advertising Week New York on October 5 and Brand Licensing Europe in London from October 6 to 8, where the company is showing brand owners how Rewarded Marketing lets them engage players and gain insight into their behavior as they level up through Sponsored Quests that reward them for completing in-game actions.
