FLORENCE, SC / ACCESS Newswire / September 29, 2026 / For the second year in a row, Compass Academy has been named one of America's Healthiest Schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The Florence 1 Schools program provides educational and therapeutic services to children whose mental health, behavioral, and learning concerns make it difficult to succeed in a traditional school setting.

Schools could be recognized in nine wellness topic areas. Compass Academy earned recognition in four this year, up from one last year: Student Health Services, Social-Emotional Health & Learning, Staff Well-Being, and Family & Community Engagement.

"Being named one of America's Healthiest Schools in four categories validates our vision," said Lead Educator Patricia Nunnally. "It proves that we aren't just talking about wellness-we are actually living it every day. I'm so proud of this honor, and it really inspires us to keep building the best, most supportive environment possible for our students."

Compass Academy began serving students during the 2024-2025 school year. Its approach brings educational and therapeutic services together to support students' academic progress and well-being.

"I am proud of the work Compass is doing for our students," said Assistant Superintendent Brian Denny. "While supporting our students' mental health is paramount, teaching them to be healthy in all aspects of life is equally important, and Compass continues to meet that need."

America's Healthiest Schools recognizes schools that put practices in place to support the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of their school communities.

"Every school recognized this year demonstrates what's possible when we prioritize the well-being of students and staff, creating environments where everyone can thrive," said Traci Causey, Chief Executive Officer of Alliance for a Healthier Generation. "Their commitment to school health best practices is shaping a brighter future for millions of young people."
