State of New Jersey Awards Unisys Contract Extension for Medicaid Administration Services

The State of New Jersey has awarded Unisys (NYSE:UIS) a contract extension that continues the company’s role as the state’s Medicaid fiscal agent and Medicaid Management Information System provider. In this role, Unisys is responsible for efficiently providing service for more than a million enrolled recipients and processing more than $7 billion in annual benefit payments.

The base three-year contract is valued at $126 million. The contract also includes options for two additional years exercisable at the discretion of the state, as well as project enhancements, bringing the potential value of the contract to $212 million if all options are exercised.

Unisys has been the State of New Jersey’s Medicaid fiscal agent since 1989, helping the state to control costs, streamline service and meet beneficiary needs. The company is responsible for processing and paying more than 117 million medical and pharmaceutical claims annually and servicing thousands of doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, therapists, and pharmacies that have treated beneficiaries eligible for the state’s Medicaid program.

In addition, Unisys processes health care claims for other state programs such as New Jersey’s General Assistance Program, which provides welfare assistance for residents without children; the Pharmacy Assistance for the Aged and Disabled; and the Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program, a state senior prescription program. Unisys also operates the state’s Medicaid provider call center for provider inquiries and the Medical Exception Pharmacy Call Center for clinical pharmaceutical benefit reviews.

“Unisys partnership with the New Jersey Medicaid program spans two decades, and this contract extension and future enhancements will bring even greater efficiencies to the program by using technology and best practices to meet constituents’ evolving needs,” said Teresa DiMarco, president of Health Information Management, Unisys Federal. “This contract extension further underscores Unisys expertise in providing business processing services and technology that help states effectively manage and optimize their Medicaid programs.”

Additional discussion of factors that could affect Unisys future results is contained in periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
