3M cuts payroll by another 1,700 jobs with layoffs, unit sale

3M Co., which announced plans in January to trim 1,500 jobs in cost-cutting efforts, continued to slim down in the second quarter, eliminating another 1,700 positions in a mix of layoffs and asset sales.
