Qingdao Has Been Selected as One of “China's Top 10 Beautiful Living Cities”

Qingdao is one of China's Top 10 Beautiful Living Cities during 2019-2020, according to China Economic Life Survey released by the China Media Group on the evening of July 6. The top 10 cities are Shanghai, Changsha, Changchun, Beijing, Qingdao, Kunming, Jinan, Haikou, Shenzhen and Xiamen. Meng Fanli, Deputy Secretary of Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, was interviewed by live connection during the broadcast of China Economic Life Survey.

Speaking about Qingdao's inclusion in the list, Meng Fanli said that a large-scale nationwide questionnaire survey on the theme of "Beautiful Life" was very successful and meaningful, and would be of great help for the city government to comprehensively examine its own problems.

In all evaluation indexes, Qingdao has multiple ones exceeding the value of national average. In this regard, Meng Fanli said that being included in the list shows that Qingdao residents have given relatively satisfactory evaluation to the survey indicators, which not only reflects their recognition of the work of municipal government, but also reflects their tolerance and love for their hometown. However, as government staff, it is important to keep a clear mind that many of the 21 indicators are below the national average. The next step is to continuously and better develop the economy, so that the general public will have better jobs and higher income; satisfy the people's growing needs for a better life and make it more convenient and better for them to have access to food, clothing, housing, transportation, travel, shopping, medical care, entertainment, culture, education, physical education and health care; promote social equity and justice, and form effective social governance and good social order, so as to continuously enhance the people's sense of gain, happiness and security.

The survey was jointly conducted with the National Bureau of Statistics, China Post Group Corporation and National School of Development at Peking University. The index system is composed of three first-level indexes including sense of gain, happiness and security and 21 second-level ones. The survey was conducted by sending questionnaires to households by mail carrier and to airlines on board with a total of 130,000 samples, which is a large-scale global feeling survey. The core of the survey is "the era publishes the paper to be reviewed by the people", where the people use their own feelings to score the beautiful life, which truly reflects the "satisfaction and happiness of the public".

According to the comprehensive data, people are generally satisfied with water and air quality, public security, medical services, education quality and park green space.

The survey found that with the deepening promotion of the national ecological civilization construction strategy, livable environment with blue sky, white clouds, green mountains and clear water is constantly improving people's feeling of beautiful life. The gap of satisfaction with city image, park green space, water and air quality among different tiers cities is narrowing. Second - and third-tier cities begin to be more satisfied with water and air quality and city image than first-tier ones.

In the fields of medical services and old-age services closely related to people's livelihood, first-tier cities are slightly more recognized than second - and third-tier cities, while in terms of education quality, satisfaction in third-tier cities has increased rapidly, making it a plus for a better life.

Looking at the 21 secondary indicators, there are still a lot of expectations for Internet governance, food safety, inclusiveness and social ethos.

The survey also showed that Hefei, Qingdao, Kunming, Haikou and Xiamen were the best living cities for young people aged between 18 and 35, while Changsha, Changchun, Chongqing, Jinan and Shenzhen have become the best living cities for people aged between 36 and 59.
