Retired CEO/Chairman of Intel Dr. Craig Barrett Joins K12 Inc. Board of Directors

K12 Inc. (NYSE:LRN) announced today that Dr. Craig Barrett, retired CEO/Chairman of the Board of Intel Corporation, has joined the Company’s board of directors.

Dr. Barrett joined Intel in 1974 and is credited with perfecting the manufacturing process for Intel’s powerful microprocessors. He retired from his position as Chairman in 2009.

Dr. Barrett is a well-known advocate for improving education opportunities for children, raising achievement levels, and promoting academic excellence. He is the chair of Change the Equation, a nationwide initiative to bolster innovation in education and improve science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education for every child. He is also co-chair of Achieve, Inc., a national organization that helps states improve the quality of testing, accountability, and academic rigor in schools. He is co-chair of the National Association of Business’ (NAB) Coalition for Excellence in Education and served on the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century. He is also president and chair of Basis Schools Inc., a charter school system located in Arizona whose high schools rank among the best in the U.S.

Dr. Barrett has testified before Congress on ways to improve education outcomes and advised the President of the U.S. on education issues.

Dr. Barrett earned a Ph.D. in materials science from Stanford University and was a member of its faculty for 10 years. He continues to serve as an advisor at Stanford.
