The Growth
Fund of America, Inc., 333 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA, USA, disclosed on
6 January 2009 that its holding in the share capital of Syngenta AG has exceeded
on 5 January 2009 the notifiable threshold margin due to acquisitions of shares.
