Construction marketing strategist Perryn Olson launches *Choose Your Own Construction Marketing Journey*, an interactive business book that challenges construction marketers and leaders to make realistic decisions and experience the consequences.
I kept the three-leader example and clarified the roles so it intentionally parallels the book’s three choices.
NEW ORLEANS, September 1, 2026 — Construction marketing strategist and author Perryn Olson, FSMPS, today announced the release of Choose Your Own Construction Marketing Journey, an interactive business book created for construction company leaders, business developers, and A/E/C marketers.
Instead of prescribing one supposedly perfect marketing approach, the book places readers in realistic situations facing construction companies. Each scenario presents three possible choices. Readers make a decision, follow the corresponding path, and experience the consequences.
Some choices work. Some create unexpected problems. Others may feel uncomfortably familiar.
“Construction marketing is rarely as simple as choosing the textbook answer,” said Olson. “The right decision depends on the company’s strategy, capacity, positioning, relationships, economics, culture, and what its leaders are trying to build. I wanted readers to wrestle with those variables instead of passively reading another list of best practices.”
The scenarios address decisions such as whether to pursue a questionable project, enter a new market, rebrand the company, invest in SEO, hire another marketer, continue pouring resources into a low-probability proposal, or push back on company leadership.
Each decision is grounded in the realities of the construction industry, including long sales cycles, relationship-driven business development, costly proposals, joint ventures with competitors, bonding, backlog, capacity, safety, recruiting, geography, subcontractor relationships, and market-sector expertise.
Beyond its branching scenarios, the book includes several recurring features:
• Executive Briefs connect each marketing decision to its broader business implications.
• Field Manuals provide practical guidance readers can apply within their companies.
• The CMO’s Take provides an experienced marketing leader’s perspective on each decision.
Olson designed the book for individual readers as well as leadership-team discussions. A CEO, operations leader, and marketing or business development leader may choose different paths through the same scenario because each sees a different risk or opportunity.
“That disagreement is part of the lesson,” Olson said. “When three leaders choose three different answers, it often reveals that they are trying to solve three different problems. The ensuing conversation can be more valuable than agreeing on the supposedly correct choice.”
Olson has worked with construction companies since 2005 and is the founder and president of A/E/C CMOs, a fractional Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) firm that helps growing construction companies strengthen their marketing leadership, build magnetic brands, and drive revenue. He previously authored Construction Executive’s Guide to Brand Marketing and the Tools of the Trade in 2014.
Choose Your Own Construction Marketing Journey is the first planned volume in a series exploring the strategic decisions construction marketers and leaders make as their companies compete, grow, and evolve.
