Hansen & Rosasco, LLP Discusses 9/11 Registration and Filing Deadlines

NEW YORK - August 12, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

In recent weeks, thousands of 9/11 victims and families in New York and out of state have been served misinformed public reports about the 7/29/2021 “registration deadline” for filing a claim with the Sept. 11 Victim Compensation Fund. If not corrected, this will lead to needless suffering, financial turmoil, and even poverty for thousands of victims. The 9/11 Fund “registration deadline” is different from the 9/11 Fund “filing deadline.” The “registration deadline” is not the same for everyone, say the partners at Hansen & Rosasco, a law firm dedicated to helping first responders and survivors of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

To clarify: The reported “registration deadline” date of a July 29, 2021, deadline only applies to a small, but important, subset of potential 9/11 victims, says Hansen & Rosasco. According to a new official message from the 9/11 Special Master on the VCF about registration and filing deadlines website dated 8/6/2020, these include:

  1. If you were certified by the WTC Health Program for a 9/11-related physical health condition before July 29, 2019, you are required to register your claim with the VCF by July 29, 2021.

  2. If you are registering to file a claim for an individual who you believe died of a 9/11-related physical health condition before July 29, 2019, you are required to register with the VCF by July 29, 2021.

The 7/29/2021 “registration deadline” does NOT apply to any other claims. It does NOT apply to the entire 9/11 community.

In the nearly 20 years that passed since 9/11 more than 100,000 people have applied for healthcare benefits for their 9/11 related physical conditions from the World Trade Center Health Program. But many of these same victims have NOT registered any claim with the separate and different 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

Last summer, a deadline for certain victims and families registering a claim with the Sept. 11th Victim Compensation Fund, was extended until July 29, 2021. That new 9/11 deadline claim procedure does NOT apply to all victims and their families! Once the World Trade Health Program declares someone an official victim, there is a two-year deadline from that date to file a claim for separate victims’ compensation. Because last year there were people who had not yet applied for the funds they deserved, that initial two-year deadline was extended to July 29, 2021. That is for the original claimants who missed their deadlines.

Since 2010 Dan Hansen and Troy Rosasco have been educating people on the available services for 9-11 victims, which include free health care at world-renowned facilities, and financial compensation for victims and the families of victims who have since passed. Those victims include downtown Manhattan workers, downtown Manhattan residents, first responders and downtown students.
