If you’re someone who likes to travel by land, but you’ve never quite let yourself sit back and enjoy the journey more than the destination before, it might be time to try out a road trip.  There’s plenty around the UK, and of course, seeing as you’ve never spent more than 3 to 4 hours in a car at one time, it’d be best to start with some beginner trails to follow!  Don’t worry, we’ve handpicked just a few of the best below for your consideration.  Be sure to keep them in mind when you’re planning your next trip away.

Start in the Cotswolds

It could take you anywhere between 24 and 8 days, but a road trip around the Cotswolds is a great way to acclimate yourself to the lifestyle.  There’s plenty of big landmarks and small, cozy villages to go around here, so you won’t run out of places to stretch your legs or catch a good selfie next to.

The Cotswolds is quite a romantic place to road trip through, so this might be best for newly weds or couples looking for a new way to travel. So pack up right, make sure there’s plenty of space in the back, and get going! Around the Lake District

There’s quite a few scenic and picturesque drives around the Lake District, and if you want something with a bit more adventure and a little more challenge, this is still a good beginner’s road trip to go out on.

There’s about 15 different drives to try out whilst visiting the Lake District, and we can highly recommend every single one of them.  Or you can try out the singular 126 round trip that’ll take you through all of the best sights the Lake District has to offer; this road heads mostly through the National Park, which is an amazing route for beginners!

Try the Scottish Highlands

Think of the Scottish Highlands as the big one for a beginner; you’ve tried the two above, and now you want to go to the next level.  Well, the Scottish Highlands are a great way to challenge yourself; there’s a lot to see, hear, and smell, and you could spend nights on the road while you’re out here.

You could follow an official tour here, or you could break away and just drive till you hit something new.  Either way, the Scottish Highlands has plenty of beaten paths and less traveled roads to suit every kind of road tripper.

Fancy a road trip?  If you’re a beginner, there’s plenty of routes to try out.  But if you want to try something a bit better, don’t worry, you’ll soon be off to Wales and all of its twists and turns next!
