Did you know that the Bible is the best-selling book of all time? With that many Bibles in the world, how come there are still people waging wars and spreading hate?

Well, that’s because there’s a big difference between buying it, reading it, and understanding it.

But why read the Bible? Every information is out there; the church teaches you what’s in the Bible, anyway. Is there any advantage to reading the Bible?

Of course; you can say it’s the most important thing to do no matter what your religion is. As long as you worship the one God, the only way to know Him better is to read the Bible.

The next time someone asks, enumerate these 9 reasons why it’s important to read it.

1. It Helps You Overcome Temptation

Temptations are around us; we face it every day, and it is this that leads to sin. If you find yourself succumbing to its claws, find refuge in the Bible.

God made us knowing that we will get tempted, but He is great for He also provides a way to escape. Remember that it does not become sin until your desires draw you away, so pray to the Lord and read the Bible the moment you feel that something is testing you.

2. It Renews Your Faith

Life will get you down; and sometimes, our chance to go back up doesn’t seem to be within sight. That’s when we’re susceptible to losing our faith. We may get too busy with life or things begin spiraling out of control.

During these times, you might begin to question whether everything is still worth it – whether God still loves you.

These thoughts are dangerous, but you can get rid of these by renewing your faith through the Bible. It’s the most important evidence of God’s love for you. It contains many stories of all the sacrifices He had made to show you how much you matter.

So even if you do not see Him with your eyes, let faith take over. As 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

3. It Steers You to the Right Direction

Everyone finds their purpose in life at the right time; some earlier than others, while the others may still be searching.

If you’re one of the latter and you still don’t know where you’re supposed to go, the Bible will tell you.

It will not explicitly tell you what to do next, but it will give you the wisdom you need to choose the right thing anyway. When you let His word decide for you, that’s when you find your true purpose.

4. It Gives Nourishment to the Spirit

As the body needs food and water to survive, our spirit also needs nourishment to not deteriorate. After all, it is the spirit that gives us life, not the flesh.

Matthew 4:4 tells us that man needs more than physical nourishment; Mankind needs spiritual nourishment as well.

The way to experience spiritual growth is to bask in God’s word. The Bible is the best source for this, but it also helps to attend worship services and practice the teachings of the Lord.

5. It Tells of God’s Promises

The Bible is full of God’s promises and many instances of such promises coming true. These promises will become true for anyone who hears and follows the call of the Lord.

Pick up the Bible to see what’s waiting for you if you choose to live by the word of God. He promises to walk with you, strengthen you, help you, and steer you away from temptation. He will never forsake you and He will give you eternal life. You only need to believe.

6. It Is a Source of Encouragement

Too often, we seek encouragement from the wrong sources. People think they can get it from the world, but it is not the world that will give us eternal life.

Knowing you have God by your side – no matter what – should be enough to get you going. The Bible teaches you all about how He loves you without condition. So the next time you feel like giving up, remember that there’s still someone left that’s not giving up on you.

7. It Allows You to Avoid False Teachings

Technology gives us so many benefits, but it comes with drawbacks, too. Because of it, it’s now easier to spread false teachings into impressionable minds.

You can avoid this as long as you stick to the Word of God, which highlights the importance of reading the Bible to youths. It contains all truths in life, so there’s no need to look elsewhere.

There’s nothing wrong with feeling some doubt, but you know where to look for clarity and peace of mind. Avoid the false prophets and their false teachings by knowing the truth in your heart.

8. It Teaches You God’s Will

It’s easy to get carried away with conforming to the world, but you should resist because that’s not the will of God. The Bible teaches you how to discern between right and wrong, and they might not always align with what the world tells you.

The more you understand the Bible, the more you understand the plans the Lord has for you. It teaches you to believe in the will of God and trust that everything is going according to His plan.

9. It Is the Source of All Answers

Like how the Bible is the source of all truths, it is also the source of all answers about God. Gone are the days when He would walk among us, so reading the Bible is now our only of knowing Him.

It can also give you answers about life, but you have to find those yourself. It’s not some magic thing that will spoon-feed you the solutions to your problems, though. You have to study the scriptures effectively to gain insight; this will help you find the way to the answer you seek.

Know Better by Reading the Bible

By reading the Bible, you not only get closer to God, but you also get closer to the truth. The best thing about it is that you can turn to it anytime – at the end of the day, when you’re feeling blue, when you’re lost, and even when you’re happy. You’ll find comfort knowing that God is always by your side.
