FABtotum Personal Fabricator launches one year after successfull crowdfunding campaign

By: PRLog
PRLog - Sep. 2, 2014 - MILAN, Italy -- FABtotum, 3D-printing company, announced today that the FABtotum Personal Fabricator has started being distributed among early adopters.

"Today we celebrate a year-long effort that culminated with today's event," FABtotum CEO and Co-Founder Marco Rizzuto said. "With the launch of the FABtotum we salute the birth of a new rapid manufacturing paradigm."

The company is pushing the boundaries of Rapid Prototyping and 3D printing with the FABtotum Personal Fabricator (short: "the FABtotum"), an all-in-one hybrid additive/subtractive CNC device that can print, cut, mill and 3D scan. The advantages of having hybrid manufacturing capabilities as well as multiple digital acquisition options are huge.

Received by the press as a truly innovative product and a real game-changer in the fast-growing market of 3D-printing, FABtotum raised over 589,000 USD through the crowdfunding site Indiegogo out of a $50,000 original goal.

The FABtotum is world's first multipurpose 3D-printer that enables a wide array of creative and professional activities, ranging from do-it-yourself to professional or research use.
Powered by Open Source Arduino-Derived Logic and the Raspberry Platform, it has a 8GB built-in memory, autonomous printing capabilities and it can be controlled by any computer, tablet or smartphone with a web browser.

With built-in technologies such as a heated platform, automatic bed calibration (auto bed leveling), expandable head mount and built-in non-proprietary spool storage, the FABtotum is also easy to use, desktop-friendly and requires low-maintenance.

With an open-source approach to software and hardware development, the FABtotum features a software plugin system and an expandable head mount. First and third party optional heads, as well as other designs, are in the development process, and will exploit all of the FABtotum capabilities as a platform.

The launch of the FABtotum marks a milestone in FABtotum's path as a multipurpose platform, as more and more optional heads and tools are expected to be available from both FABtotum and third party manufacturers. "It will be exciting to see what new projects and ideas the FABtotum will make possible," Rizzuto Said.
